Elliott Smith Guitar Tabs
This has got to be one of Elliott’s most overlooked and underrated songs. Simple but powerful.
Playing this one is all about the notes you don’t play. The chord shapes are basic, but pay attention to the chord guide and mute the strings properly to get the right sound. You never play the high E string (or in this tuning the D string) so keep your strumming focused on the bass strings.

Sorry for no new tabs in a really long time. There will be some. I was trying to remember how to play a bunch of these songs and I fixed a typo in Everything’s Okay/PMK(early version). So there’s your update.
Sorry I haven’t been around much lately! I’ve had lots of time but I’ve been focusing my musical efforts in the last few months on the piano instead of guitar and other artists. But I’m not abandoning this site. I’d like to pick up the guitar some more and tab some songs I’ve learned before I forget them. It’s my way of getting them out so I don’t have to remember them or relearn them. Likely songs are confusion, satyricon instrumental and true love… as these are ones i know pretty well that also get requested a lot. Anyway, I’ve also wanted to thank everyone for being cool since I switched over to the new site. It’s funny how the trolls disappeared.
Okay so I did a quick tab for placeholder. I think these are the correct chord voicings. I didn’t tab out all the picking but it’s sort of that strum/pick thing that elliott did a lot. I think if you follow the chords and listen to the record you’ll figure the right hand out.
So I did a cover of Placeholder last night after my roomates went to bed and the house was quiet. This is one of my favorite Either/Or era songs. Let me know what you think:
Hey everyone. I did a quick tab for the newly leaked Suicide Machine. It’s pretty simple. It’s difficult to be really accurate without any acoustic versions of this song out there because it’s hard to hear the chord voicings… but I think these are the right chords. Let me know what you think.
